Fairmined Silver: Documented Origin and Gram-by-Gram Traceability
Our Fairmined silver comes from artisanal and small-scale mining organizations certified under the Fairmined standard. Its origin is identified at the mining organization that produces it and is preserved throughout the supply chain, from acquisition to the product we deliver.
At Fairalloy, we maintain gram-by-gram traceability, supported by records of purchases, material movements, processing and sales. This information allows us to link the silver supplied to its mining origin and document its journey.
Segregated production
We keep Fairmined silver segregated from non-certified material throughout the supply chain. We monitor the quantities received, processed and delivered to preserve the material's identity and the continuity of its traceability.
The documentation for each transaction supports this physical connection. The declared origin is the mining organization; the refinery and other participants form part of the silver's journey.
Good practices and opportunities for mining communities
Fairmined certification sets requirements for labour practices, environmental management, formalization and organizational development. Compliance is assessed through independent audits.
By purchasing Fairmined silver, our customers support these organizations' access to markets that recognize their efforts and the demands of producing under a certified standard. The Fairmined Premium provides additional resources whose investment is governed by the standard and the decisions of the mining organization.
Our commitment includes promoting the work of these communities, making their origin visible and building commercial relationships that contribute to the continuity of their operations and the improvement of their practices. Each supply connects an industry need with identified mining organizations and a documented chain of custody.
Prices and calculation
How we calculate the price
The price of Fairmined silver starts from the international quotation per troy ounce, taken daily at 15:00 London time. We divide this reference by 31.1035 to obtain the value per gram and apply the premium corresponding to the order volume.
| Order quantity | Premium |
|---|---|
| From 1,000 g to less than 3,000 g | 110% |
| From 3,000 g | 100% |
Price per gram =
(reference in USD/troy ounce ÷ 31.1035) × (1 + premium).
The premium represents a larger proportion of the reference price than for gold because the costs of segregated production, collection and refining account for a greater share of silver's value. While conventional refining spreads costs over large volumes, our Fairmined silver batches consist of only a few kilograms.
